Goodbye Nana Skelton

Tuesday, 27 May 2025

On the 17th May my Nana sadly passed away.

She had a sharp mind, a vast vocabulary and was perpetually well spoken. So it's no surprise that she always loved doing the word puzzles from the newspaper and watching episodes of Countdown. I'll never forget her swirling cursive handwriting that adorned each and every birthday and Christmas card.

Seeing shows and performances at the theatre, including numerous musicals and ballets, was one of her favourite pass times. She had an excellent memory and could recall the names of all the roundabouts on the way to Milton Keynes theatre, which is some feat!

She was a stoic, private and strong-willed lady right to the very end. A force to be reckoned with in many ways, but always with the best intentions at heart.

I'll think of her in the smaller moments - like whenever I go to eat a large orange (cut in half to scoop out each segment because that's how she prepared them when I was young) or when I hear classical music, which she listened to a lot - but also in the bigger moments in life, the milestones where her absence will be felt.

When my Grandad passed away nearly 10 years ago she wrote on the card for her floral tribute, "Until we meet again..." and so it's my hope that they've been reunited and are together once more.

Rest peacefully Nana, lots of love.

Laura.
